Last CAPS elk statue finds its permanent home at Lippert Components®

September 10, 2015

ELKHART, Ind. — Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI®) is pleased to announce that the 38th and final Child and Parent Services (CAPS) Elk Art on Parade statue was installed Friday, September 4, on the lawn at the corner of C.R. 6 and Marina Drive in Elkhart, right outside LCI’s corporate headquarters. Local media along with LCI and CAPS employees watched Friday morning as the elk was presented by CAPS President and Chief Executive Officer Candy Yoder, LCI Vice President of Sales and CAPS Chairman of the Board Andy Murray and artist Anna Ryan Drew.

“Elk represent what CAPS is all about. When baby elk are born to the herd, all the adults take care of those babies, making sure they are safe and cared for, and that’s what we invite the community to do with us – to unite to take care of our kids.” said Candy Yoder, CAPS CEO. “It’s so fitting for the last elk of the herd to find its home here, because Lippert Components exemplifies caring for the community. The Lippert Components team has done so much for kids and families in Elkhart County.”

Elk Art on Parade was a community art project launched in 2011 by CAPS to spread awareness of the importance of strong families in the development of healthy, happy children. Now more than 30 life-size fiberglass elk statues painted by artists around the region stand at various locations around Elkhart County, bringing beauty and knowledge to the community. All proceeds from the sale of the elk statues went to benefit CAPS in its mission to end child abuse in Elkhart County.

Murray explained that he’s been involved with CAPS for about five years and is committed to supporting the organization in its mission to help children. “One of our core values at Lippert Components is caring for people,” said Murray. “That extends beyond our employees and customer base into the community, where we are proud to support organizations like CAPS that care for our children, giving them hope and opportunity for a successful future.”

LCI won this particular elk at the 2014 CAPS Vines & Steins auction and commissioned Granger-based artist and longtime CAPS supporter Drew to paint the statue. “The ELK is bright — it shows movement, life, and represents hope,” said Drew. “I hope that it conveys what I have seen in the eyes of children who participate in the CAPS program and that it will be a lasting representation and catalyst for continued positive change and awareness in Elkhart County.”
