Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI®) refurbishes United States Air Force flex trailer

September 07, 2016

Elkhart, Ind. — Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI®) recently donated labor and materials to restore and enhance a travel trailer used by Indiana Air National Guard 122nd Fighter Wing fire department.

Mat Johnson, LCI’s Director of Technical Training and Support, is an active member of the Air National Guard and spearheaded the project. “We were honored to be a part of this project,” commented Johnson.

Johnson noticed the trailer, a former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) unit, in disrepair at the Fort Wayne, Ind. Air National Guard Station. LCI arranged to have the trailer towed to their Customer Service Center in South Bend, Ind. where technical trainers, with support from the parts department, made repairs and installed many of Lippert’s top-of-the-line products.

New components on the restored trailer include a Correct Track suspension alignment system, entry steps, electric stabilizer jacks, axles, a power tongue jack, windows and doors. Water-damaged paneling and insulation, as well as the trailer’s roof air system, were also replaced. LCI converted the unit’s bedroom to add additional sleeping and storage space to enhance the trailer’s usage capabilities. After repairs were completed, LCI added graphics onto the unit’s exterior.

The U.S. Air Force’s 122nd Fighter Wing aims to maintain a well-trained and equipped A-10C unit that can be made immediately available for combat operations and support with adaptable Airmen. During peacetime operations, the 122nd Fighter Wing assists local authorities with rescue and relief operations during natural disasters and other emergencies.

The renovated trailer will mainly be used as a flexible, mobile space as a first aid station and air-conditioned recovery space for the Airmen while they are deployed during emergency situations. From September 10-11, the unit will be used at the 2016 Fort Wayne Air Show as the first-aid station.
